Think nostalgia, elegance, along with decadence, and you can start to image what you will experience as an audience member at The Nutcracker. This Christmas tale, performed by the Scottish Ballet, will leave you feeling positively festive.
You can delight in Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score, whilst enjoying the story of a little girl called Clara, who has a magical dream on Christmas Eve which sees her meeting her Prince, the Sugar Plum Fairy, mice (with giant oversized heads), the Rat King, the Snow Queen, and many other characters.
The Scottish Ballet dancers are fabulous – I went with my daughter, and she was just blown away by the dancing, as was I. When it finished the lady sat beside me summed it up perfectly as she whispered to her friend “that was just magical”, and she was right – it really was.
The set is grand and beautiful, and it even snows on stage. And, it was lovely to see the children dancers, they were full of character, and the choreography by Peter Darrell was fun and flawless.
The Nutcracker is on at the Festival Theatre till December 30, with an inclusive performance on December 14 at 14:30.
