Family Event Day: Crowns and Coronations

As The Queen becomes the longest-reigning British monarch, celebrate this important milestone with a day of fantastic family events.
Activity trail – explore the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with our activity trail and photographic display in the Quadrangle.
Storytelling – what happens at a coronation ceremony? Listen to themed stories and music in the Throne Room and find out about events on the day Her Majesty, The Queen was crowned. Sessions last 40 minutes and include a look back in time at the coronations of other monarchs, including Queen Victoria. 10:30, 13:30 and 14:30.
Family Garden Party Tours – explore the South Lawn where The Queen holds her annual garden party. See where the gardeners grow plants in preparation, learn about the famous Royal Company of Archers who guard Her Majesty on the day and sample a slice of a garden party favourite food. Tours at 11:30, 14:30 and 15:30.
Make and Take Craft Activity – join us in the Palace Coach House and find out about the different crowns and tiaras The Queen has worn for special occasions during her reign. Use them as inspiration to make your own sparkling crown to take home.
Spot the Crown Treasure Hunt – pick up a treasure map The Quadrangle and follow the clues to see how many crowns you can find hidden in the Palace.
Face painting – crown jewel themed face painting in the Family Room.
Summer Holiday Programme Rotator 2016
Findlay Stewart, 3, has a terror-ific time bringing the spirit of Hallowe’en to the RZSS Edinburgh Zoo. Children aged up to 15 will receive a free one-day entry ticket for presenting a tiger-themed carved pumpkin on arrival at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo between Monday 17 and Sunday 23 October 2016.

â¢Storytelling – Join our storyteller in the Great Gallery and be transported back to the Jacobite times.
â¢Family Activity Trails – explore the Palace gardens and abbey with a family activity trail.
â¢Family Audio Tour – learn more about the Palace and its most famous residents with our interactive audio tour designed for families to enjoy together. Look out for unusual furniture, sparkling jewels and more.
